Family sessions with busy little kids are some of my absolute favorites. The movement, the giggles, the unpredictable moments—this is where the magic happens. This adorable family session was full of energy, laughter, and real connection, which is exactly what makes family photography so fun and meaningful.
As a St. Louis family photographer, I always remind parents that it’s okay if your kids don’t sit still or smile on command. In fact, those in-between moments often become the most loved images. When kids are free to explore, play, and be themselves, the session feels relaxed and natural—and the photos reflect that beautifully.
One of my favorite ways to keep family sessions engaging—especially with little kids—is by breaking the session into smaller groupings. We always capture the full family together, but I also love photographing mom and dad together, dad with the kids, mom with the kids, and then each parent with each child individually. This approach keeps things moving, gives kids natural breaks, and results in a wide variety of images that tell a more complete story.
These smaller groupings often create some of the most meaningful moments. Parents get individual time with each child, kids feel special and seen, and families walk away with a gallery that feels full, intentional, and beautifully diverse.

This family embraced the chaos in the best way. Instead of trying to slow things down, we leaned into the energy. Running, snuggling, twirling, and laughing all became part of the story. These moments create images that feel authentic and timeless, especially for families with young children.
Family sessions like this one are a perfect reminder that your kids don’t need to be “perfect” for beautiful photos. The joy, movement, and connection are what truly matter.

One of the standout elements of this session was the family’s outfit choice. A soft, neutral color palette paired beautifully with the lush green background that is so common in Forest Park and Queeny Park. Neutral tones photograph incredibly well, especially in spring, allowing the focus to stay on connection rather than distraction.
The mix of light neutrals against the natural greens created a timeless look that will never feel dated. As a family photographer in St. Louis, I always recommend neutral palettes for outdoor family sessions, particularly in parks like Forest Park and Queeny Park where greenery plays such a big role in the scenery.

Spring is one of the most popular seasons for family sessions in St. Louis. Between comfortable temperatures, blooming greenery, and beautiful natural light, it’s easy to see why dates fill up quickly. If you’ve been thinking about scheduling a spring family session, now is the perfect time to get on the calendar.
I photograph family sessions throughout St. Louis and surrounding areas, including Forest Park, Queeny Park, Kirkwood, Clayton, and Webster Groves. Whether your family is full of quiet moments or nonstop energy, your session will be designed to feel easy, fun, and true to who you are.
If you’re ready to capture this season of life—busy kids and all—I’d love to help you plan your spring family session. Spring dates book fast, so be sure to sign up soon before the calendar fills up.
Because these joyful, chaotic, beautiful days deserve to be remembered.
